PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
I have been a practicing lawyer since 1992, the year I completed my law degree at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
In September of that year, I was hired by the international law firm of Fernando Scornik Gerstein as a trainee lawyer, based in Playa del Inglés, Gran Canaria, specializing in civil law.
After several years specializing in areas of law such as Real Estate Law, Obligations and Contracts, International Civil Law, Family Law, Personal Injury, and Professional Negligence, among others, I served primarily foreign clients referred by consulates, embassies, or other law firms for which we were correspondents. In 1997, I was promoted to Managing Partner of the Gran Canaria offices, where I oversaw the legal work of the firm’s lawyers and selected and hired new lawyers, in addition to managing the day-to-day operations and the legal matters entrusted to me.
I have completed training courses in International Law, Real Estate Law, and Personal Injury, and have attended numerous seminars on the areas of law I practice, as well as conferences organized by international organizations and the various bar associations of which I am a member, held in cities around the world such as Vancouver, Chicago, New York, London, Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, Vienna, Barcelona, and Milan, among others.
In January 2005, I left that firm and opened my own firm, “Casteleiro Abogados,” where I am the managing partner, serving primarily international clients.
During this period, I have partnered with the multidisciplinary law firm “De León Rivas Val y Asociados” in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in order to collaborate with them and provide legal services to my clients in areas not covered by my own firm.
I also collaborate with international English- and German-speaking law firms through my membership in bar associations such as the IBA, PEOPIL-APIL, and IURISPAN, among others. In addition to Spanish, I speak English fluently, both written and spoken, and German at a conversational level.
OTHER PERSONAL INFORMATION. – Regarding other relevant information, I served as Deputy Mayor of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council and as Councilor for the areas of Urban Planning, Municipal Ordinances and Regulations, Police, Fire and Civil Protection, and Traffic and Advertising.
I am also president of the “Friends of the House of Musicians Association,” which organizes classical music concerts conducted by the world-renowned German pianist and conductor, Professor Dr. Justus Frantz, and of the “INARMON” Association, a meeting point in southern Gran Canaria for European painters, sculptors, and artists in general.
I was president of the now-defunct “Galician House of Maspalomas,” which was dedicated to altruistic work and helping those in need, whether Galician or Canarian.
In conclusion, throughout my life, service and helping others have been not only my livelihood but also a part of my personal life; something I learned from my father, a colonel in the Air Force, and from my grandfather, a Distinguished Son of the City of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
